Birthdate: Oct. 7, 1987 Birthplace: San Francisco, Calif. Residence: Thousand Oaks, Calif. Height: 6’ 3” Weight: 175 lbs. Plays: Right-handed; two-handed backhandSam Querrey posted excellent results at this week's French Open. Playing in only the second Grand Slam of his career, the 17-year-old from Thousand Oaks, Calif., had the best performance of any American junior by advancing to the singles quarterfinals at the event. Querrey was sensational playing on the red clay of Roland Garros for the first time. He dropped only 10 games total in his first three matches, knocking off Frenchman Laurent Rochette, 6-0, 6-4, in round one, Australian Todd Ley, 6-4, 6-2, in round two, and Britain’s Andrew Kennaugh, 6-0, 6-0, in round three. He took on Lukas Lacko of the Slovak Republic in the quarterfinals on Thursday, but lost the match in three sets, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3. Coming into the French Open with a 12-match winning streak, after capturing singles titles at both the Easter Bowl US Closed Championships and the USTA International Spring Championships in April, the 6' 3" right-hander equaled his results from the 2004 US Open, where he lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Andrew Murray of Great Britain, this year’s French Open boys' top seed. Querrey’s game has certainly blossomed of late. At the beginning of April, he was ranked 112th in the ITF World Junior Rankings and is now listed at No. 18. With his performance in Paris, his ranking will likely move up yet again when the ITF World Junior Rankings are released next week. RANKING HISTORY
